Not much time left before Camp 2016 starts, and so many new teachers to meet! After Emma and Monika, it’s time to introduce Tessa and Nicolas, two South African TEFL-certified teachers with years of experience in English tutoring, coaching kids’ sports, and environmental education. They will bring all their love for nature and their beautiful home country to our 6th graders, who will be lucky to have not just one, but two teachers in class! We interviewed Tessa to get a sense of what kind of teachers they will be at our camp.
Introduce yourself for our friends at English Camp Orsago!
I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, spending a lot of time outdoors and learning a love for nature and the environment. After high school, I went on to study environmental science at university, doing both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I am very passionate about the environment, and love to create this kind of passion in others. I have been teaching English and science for many years.
Why did you choose our camp? We really just got very lucky with this camp! By chance I saw a post on Facebook about a vacancy for two teachers, and Nick and I were going to be in Europe at around the same time and had never been to Italy. After chatting to Achille we realized what a great opportunity and adventure this would be!
What kind of teachers will you be?
We will be the “green” kind of teachers! We’ve done a lot of tutoring and volunteering in environmental education over the years. We want to try to extend our passion for the environment to the students, by giving them the vocabulary and tools to talk and learn about important environmental issues. Most of all, we want them to have fun!
Thank you Tessa and Nick, and stay tuned for our next articles… We’ve got 5 more teachers to meet!
